Women Against Gun Violence provides internship opportunities to allow students to make important contributions to the violence prevention movement. We have an assortment of available internship opportunities.
 

Internship opportunities are flexible to accommodate busy school and work schedules. Depending on qualifications, paid and unpaid internships are available. We can also assist you with obtaining school credit. We will review applications from undergraduate, graduate and law school students.

The following internships are currently available:

 

Law Intern:

WAGV is searching for an independent law student who is interested in helping survivors of gun violence learn about their rights, the trial process and support services that can help them in their time of need. Interns will work closely with staff to research the criminal law system, rights of victims of gun violence and resources for survivors. WAGV is looking for a law student who is familiar with the criminal law system, demonstrates excellent writing and communication skills, can multitask and is willing to show independence and initiative in the development of our “Trial Support Resource” for WAGV survivors. In addition to working with staff, the law intern may be expected to work with community collaborators, representatives from law enforcement and local policymakers to gather information and distribute the final product.

 

Media Relations Intern:

WAGV is searching for a motivated undergraduate or graduate student who would like to share their experience in media to help our organization spread our message of safety and violence prevention. WAGV is looking for an intern with excellent writing and communication skills, experience in marking or public relations who can share in our vision to education and increase the awareness of LA residents. The media relations intern will work with staff to design a public relations/ marketing plan. They will be asked to update and develop a media contact list, design a system for list maintenance, review past and current marketing material and assist with the coordination and execution of media relations initiatives. The media inter will also design a marketing plan for potential donors and orchestrate mailing for donor relations. Finally, they will aid in the development of targeted media pitches and help to create a script template for media and reporters.

 

Development Intern:

WAGV is looking for creative individuals who are interested in learning more about fundraising and event planning. WAGV is searching for individuals with experience in fundraising, sales, special event planning, typing, and other clerical skills. WAGV is also looking for strong writing and communication skills. Interns will be helping with event planning of our annual brunch event.  They will help with the coordination of our silent auction and be involved in other office fundraising duties. Interns will be responsible for assisting with event set-up and break-down. During the event, they will work registration, assist in guest check-in, and be responsible for greeting guests and answering questions about the event. During the event they may also be asked to be runners for our silent auction and deliver items to guest during the ceremony.

 

Community Outreach Intern:

WAGV is searching for a creative and outgoing undergraduate or graduate student who is passionate about violence prevention, safety and community building. WAGV is looking for an intern with excellent writing and communication skill who is interested in working in the community to spread messages of safety, community building and alternatives to gun use. The community outreach intern will work closely with staff to research foundations and organizations that complete our mission. They will assist with the preparation of our quarterly electronic newsletter, outreach materials and news articles. They will also be involved in the writing of grant proposals, attending community events and maintaining community correspondences. Bilingual individuals in English and Spanish are highly desired.
